“What's Out There?”
Equine-assisted therapy (EAT) is a type of therapy that involves therapeutic horse interactions. EAT has proven to be beneficial in treating Addiction and PTSD, which frequently co-occurs in military members.
The Benefits of EAT
The Solution
Heart Rate Variability = Negative Emotions
Equine Assisted Therapy helps HRV Clients learn to regulate breathing and heart rate which helps regulate emotions
Setting Boundaries
Clients are required to set clear boundaries and communicate those boundaries in a way that the horse understands to complete obstacles
Practice Assertiveness
Horses can be unresponsive and difficult to control. Requires the client to be assertive and communicate clearly with the horse.
Nonverbal Communication
Horses are highly attuned to nonverbal cues and clients learn to become more aware of their own body language and how it affects the horses
Asking For Help
As not all horses are responsive to maneuvering, this can aid clients in communicating their needs and asking for assistance.
